Microsoft Acquires Indie Studio Behind 'Void Wanderer' Franchise
Stellar Loop Studios, creators of the acclaimed Void Wanderer series, are joining Xbox Game Studios.
Microsoft has confirmed the acquisition of Stellar Loop Studios, the Canadian indie team behind the critically-acclaimed Void Wanderer trilogy. The deal closed yesterday and all three founders will remain with the studio in their current roles.
Void Wanderer, a space exploration RPG known for its procedurally generated narratives and exceptional writing, has sold over 12 million copies across PC and console. The third entry, Void Wanderer: Fractured Horizon, launched to widespread acclaim last September.
Phil Spencer commented in the announcement post: 'Stellar Loop's approach to storytelling in games is something we deeply respect. They'll have the resources to pursue even more ambitious projects while maintaining the creative independence that makes their work special.'
What this means for Xbox Game Pass subscribers: all three Void Wanderer games are expected to hit the service within the next 60 days. The fourth installment is already in pre-production and will be a console exclusive.
